Summer Beach Bag Must Haves
by Tamara Neale
I flipping LOVE summer. Tofino in the summer? Even better.
With some of the most stunning sandy beaches on in all of Canada, some that go on, and on for miles. I spend lots of time at home soaking it all up.
A few of my favorite local beaches are:
- Florencia Bay in the Pacific Rim National Park.
- Chesterman Beach - you can find me tucked up in the driftwood soaking up the sun on my beach blanket with a cheeky tequila in my thermos!
- Tonquin Beach - its smaller, and warmer and my daughter loves this beach because of the rock bluffs. She has an adventurous soul and loves climbing on them.
We love surfing, boogie boarding, looking for beach glass, and special shells, we really enjoy exploring the trails and going to long walks, playing in the white wash and watching all the surfers.
I use my oh-so-fancy Tofino Co-Op tote bag for all my beachy needs. Here’s a peek into what I bring with me to the beach:
- Reef-safe sunscreen. My fav is Green Room’s Tuff Stuff Natural Zinc!
- My Flower Power Botanical Body Lotion - The salt and sand really dries the skin out, so this helps my skin stay moisturized. Lavender, jasmine, magnolia, and rhododendron in a skin-happy formula with vitamin e, aloe vera (for those days you maybe got a little too much sun) and jojoba oil.
- While I obviously don’t bring soap to the beach - there’s nothing like that post-summertime beach day shower. I love Long Beach for the bright lemon and the soothing lavender to settle me into the our summer evenings spent at home.
Speaking of summer evenings: the best spot to witness an unreal sunset is at Pettinger Point - it's wedged between Cox Bay and Chesterman Beach. Foraging in this area is amazing as well. Often you can find: spruce tips, nootka rose, and yarrow on these bluffs.
Happy summer friends - keep adventuring!
