Rituals For a More Mindful Life

by Tamara Neale

Life is busy.

At The Hobbyist - we’re here to help you live a more mindful life by taking the time to rest, recharge and re-center. We believe that living mindfully means taking the time to do the little things. Lighting your favorite candle, running yourself a botanical bubble bath on a stormy day, or going to the beach with your family to count all the starfish and sand dollars.

Intention + Connection

Taking these mindful moments helps you really appreciate what you have in life - and it puts into perspective what is most important. For me? It’s about:

Living a slow, intentional life - connected to mother earth, while taking in as much family time as humanly possible. When I can blend family time with creating together in the studio - it sets my heart on fire. I also love getting in some solo studio time and working what my heart feels through my hands.

I know that taking those moments of peace help to quiet my mind and helps me find balance and enables me to stay in tune with my life.

While lighting a candle and reading a new book may not feel like it will make much impact on your overall wellness… overtime, it does. By taking those quiet moments it allows me to recharge and re-center so I can be the patient, nurturing mother, partner, and business owner that I’m able to be.

Habits vs. Rituals

Habits are something you do sometimes without second thoughts, or things you need to do daily - brushing your teeth, making breakfast etc.

Rituals have more intention within them. It could be a delicious skincare routine with all the stops: eye patches, the masks and all the lotions - you’re taking the time to fully absorb yourself within the process and tuning into yourself. Making yourself the only priority in that moment.

Mine is a nightly bath — when we don’t water shortages.. and so far-so good!!!

I draw a hot bath, light my current favorite coastal candle (which at the moment is By the Sea Shore), pour in a healthy amount of salt soak, and intentionally take the time to relax and breathe.

Rituals are about intention, attention and repetition. I take my bath nightly (repetition), I intentionally take the time to light candles, and relax into the evening, and I focus my attention to the current moment of this experience.

Where can you create more depth?

I touched on this earlier, I know and respect that our lives are can be incredibly busy - so taking the time to look at your current habits or daily routines can shed light on where you can create some more depth and ritual.

Can you wear your beloved plant perfume a couple times a week?

Or could it be taking the time to light that beautiful candle that’s been sitting on your mantle since last holiday season while cooking dinner. Maaaaybe you could even pour yourself a glass of yummy wine and or make fun mocktail to spice up the evening?!

Can you take an evening walk with your family, and leave the phones at home?

It’s just about taking even the smallest moments and finding the magic within or sometimes creating that magic yourself!

What are some ways you can create sacred ritual in your life?
