Caring for Coastal Candles
by Tamara Neale
I’ve got a little secret to share that might surprise you:
I truly believe that candles should be enjoyed year-round! That’s right, I said it - even in the summer months! The key is finding the right scents that harmonize with each season.
Harmonize with the Seasons:
Those cozy warm scents are perfect for fall and winter, but why not embrace the light, refreshing, and bright tropical blends in the spring and summer months?
Tonquin Beach hits all of those feelings for me: juicy mango, coconut, and pineapple – it’s like a tropical getaway in a jar!
Here’s a few other options I love:
- Stubbs Island: yuzu & jasmine for a fresh, floral scent that’s super light and bright.
- Shelter: Inspired by one of my favorite cocktails, a dark & stormy with heaps of fresh ginger and lime juice!
- Wick Beach: sandalwood & citrus – bright, earthy, and perfect for setting the mood at those dinner parties.
- Chesterman Beach: A green, and clean blend of sage, hemp, and sweet grass.
- Coastal Bliss: Earthy and grounding, with eucalyptus to keep your space refreshing and bright.
How to care for your coastal candles:
All of my candle collections are hand-poured with so much love, mindful intention and care - so I wanted to show you how to care for them and give them the best (because you and your candles deserve it!).
- The first time you light your candle, keep it burning for 3-4 hours to prevent ‘tunneling’. Allow the surface of the candle to melt completely before blowing out for best results.
- Keep away from open windows or especially drafty areas in your home - and never leave them unattended.
- Trim your wicks to 1/4” before lighting, especially if the wick is bulbous at the top.
- Use a candle snuffer to prevent inhalation of soot and smoke.
- When your candle has about 1/2” left, pour some hot water into the candle holder and let sit until the water is cooled. Your wax will float to the top so you can easily clean your containers to reuse them!
- Be mindful of keeping candles out of reach of little hands and your furry friends! Keep lit candles in a safe spot where they can’t be grabbed or knocked over.
