A recipe worth holding onto.

Inspired by my Grandma Jeune and the pumpkin pie she made for her family, this cozy blend of spiced pumpkin, baked pastry and warm vanilla smells like something just pulled from the oven — warm, buttery, spiced and familiar.

Since Grandma Jeune returned to wherever we go from here, her pumpkin pie recipe has stayed with us. Over the years, her grandkids have tried to recreate it in her honour, and now her great-grandkids are taking their turn. I’ve tried too. I’ve always fallen short.

Turns out, some things just belong to the hands that made them.

So I decided to do what I know how to do best: I turned it into a candle.

It might not taste like Grandma’s pumpkin pie, but as I pour each batch, I think of her — and all the ways the things we make can keep someone with us long after they’re gone.

Hand-poured into a reusable rocks glass using eco-soy wax, organic cotton wicks, and our own custom-blended paraben- and phthalate-free fragrance oils.

Handcrafted in small batches in Tofino, on the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. Every Coastal Candle is vegan and thoughtfully made using ethically sourced ingredients.

Giving back in Grandma Jeune's honor.

A portion of the proceeds from every Grandma Jeune's Pumpkin Pie candle will be donated to the Campbell River & District Adult Care Society.

Campbell River is where Grandma spent most of her life, where much of our family still lives, and where I grew up too. Caring for others also runs through our family — I trained as a care aide, my mom was a care aide, and she helped care for Grandma in the final years.

This candle is a small way to keep that thread going — from her recipe, through our family, and back into the community that was home to so much of her life.
