The First Full Moon of the Year
by Tamara Neale
A Full Moon in Cancer
I don’t love big, dramatic takes on astrology.
But I do believe in paying attention.
And this first full moon of the year — in Cancer — feels like one worth noticing.
Especially because… I’m a Cancer.
Cancer is ruled by the moon. Home. Emotions. Intuition. The stuff we carry quietly and rarely name. And when the moon is full in this sign, it doesn’t whisper — it shows you what’s really there.
Not in a chaotic way.
In a truthful one.
If I’m being honest, the end of last year asked a lot.
Holding family, work, responsibility, momentum — all at once. Keeping things moving even when I was tired. Showing up because stopping didn’t feel like an option.
This moon doesn’t care about productivity.
It cares about how you’re actually doing.
As a Cancer, I know how easy it is to hold things together for everyone else. To be the steady one. The emotional glue. The person who keeps the wheels turning — even when it costs something.
This moon asks me to turn that care inward.
To check in with what I’ve been carrying.
To admit what feels heavy.
To soften where I’ve been bracing.
You might feel emotional tonight. Or nostalgic. Or quiet. Or just aware.
You might feel proud and exhausted at the same time.
You might not feel much at all — just the sense that something needs a little more honesty.
That’s the work of this moon.
This isn’t about fixing anything.
It’s not about setting intentions or pushing forward.
It’s about acknowledging what’s real — without judgment.
If all you do tonight is pause for a minute, breathe a little deeper, and tell yourself the truth… that’s enough.
Especially if you’re a Cancer.
